The most interesting thing in american idol season 10 is when Wilson Kissed Her Boyfriend. Who'da thunk that Tyler was such a softie?  Of course, it was funny watching him scold Randy for calling someone a bad singer and then turning around and doing essentially the same thing himself a few minutes later.

And is J Lo really the only one that is hearing the auditions?  The boys really let some marginal contestants through.  Then again, from the edits the overall talent level is way down even from last year's record mediocrity.

Hats off to the production team, though.  The little piano tickling during McCaffery's package had us looking for the right thing.  And the sound effects as Younique's number fell off during the judges critique and the freeze frame and record screech when Wilson kissed her boyfriend were flat out hilarious.

American Idol 2010 - Lee DeWyze 'Kiss From A Rose'

Tonight on American Idol 2010 the final four sang Songs from Cinema. They each chose a song from a popular movie. Lee DeWyze chose ‘Kiss From A Rose’ which was sang by Seal. The celebrity mentor on the show was singer/actor Jamie Foxx.

Unfortunately, the judges were not thrilled with DeWyze’s performance of ‘Kiss From A Rose.’ Of course, Simon Cowell ended up using his standard Karaoke criticism. I think it is time for Cowell to come up with some new lines. I suppose he doesn’t really have to though since he is leaving the show after this season and we are nearly to the final 3.

American Idol 2010 - Crystal Bowersox & Lee Dewyze Are Falling Slowly

 Between these two, I think we all know one of them is winning this season of American Idol. It all depends on how things continue to happen in the weeks ahead. One bad performance can be your ticket home at this stage of the competition. Some were wanting to see these two perform together, and they got their wish tonight.

For their duet, these two performed Falling Slowly. A song from the Once soundtrack. Can Lee Dewyze come back a little with this performance? We know he bombed with his solo. Apparently, he didn't bomb here. The judges loved this performance! The two face each other on stage with their guitars, and their chemistry is on! This performance might just save Lee this week.

Could Adam Lambert become the first gay or bisexual 'American Idol'?

With just a handful of finalists left on this year's "American Idol", could flamboyant favorite Adam Lambert become the first gay or bisexual winner of the hit talent show?

"Some people are saying, wouldn't it be amazing that in the same year that the first African-American president took office in the U.S., we also elected the first gay and/or bisexual 'American Idol'," Robert Thompson, professor of popular culture at Syracuse University in New York told Reuters.
"I don't think that's comparable. Rather than being surprised, I am thinking 'Wow, have we really got this far without having one yet?,'" he said.

The talented 27-year-old has never openly discussed his sexual orientation, though he declared "I have nothing to hide. I am who I am," after pictures of him dressed in drag and kissing other men circulated on the internet last month.

Whether his sexuality matters or not to voters, one thing that's undisputed is Lambert's extraordinary talent, having already won a rare standing ovation from Mr. Nasty himself, Simon Cowell, after his cover of "Mad World" by Tears for Fears last month.

Commenting on the new format of the show, watched by an average of 26.3 million viewers every week, Lambert said, "I think it gives America the chance to pull who they really want."

Lambert's daring performances, described as "confusing, shocking, over the top, theatrical" by judge Kara DioGuardi, coupled with his refusal to deny his sexuality have already made him a less ambiguous figure to fans than 2003 runner-up Clay Aiken, who didn't talk publicly about being gay until 2008.

Already renowned for his phenomenal vocal range and audacious performances if hits including "Believe" by Cher, Lambert says if he wins, "I hope to be a role model for maybe that kid who…doesn't fit the mold."

American Idol Have New Judge

Music producer and gifted songwriter, Kara DioGuardi will join the three-person jury sensational pop idol contest, U.S., American Idol.

He is the person who hit render on some Celine Dion, Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, and more. He joined the trio judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson for the first audition in New York, on Tuesday (26 / 8).

"This will be something fun," said DioGuardi has ever collaboration with Paula Abdul to write property Spinning Around Kylie Minogue in 2000.

He was surprised that when they selected accompany and feel a little nervous.

Then what kind of style that he did when the assessment, a little 'sadistic' or Cowell as' friendly 'as Paula Abdul?

Happy Birthday, David Cook!

A self-declared "Word Nerd," it's not surprising that David Cook is able to express his thoughts on his CD, his career, and life in general. As he puts it on his official web site, "There’s a lot I haven’t shown the world, just as far as who I am and what I’m about. I have several layers as an artist and those layers are out there on this record. I don’t see myself ever writing an autobiography; I’m just going to let the music speak for itself.”

The part of David Cook he showed us during season seven was certainly effective. His use of creative arrangements of some popular songs, like the amazing rendition of Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," resonated with fans everywhere. He not only came up with some original arrangements on his own, but he knew enough to pick songs that fit his style to a tee. Ironically, David originally came to support his brother, Andrew, when he auditioned for AI in Nebraska, and only tried out at his brother's urging.

His post-Idol work has already caused quite a stir in the business, and he's even broken records formerly held by music legends. One week after winning, David had 11 of his songs debut on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, which is the highest number of new entries in a single week by an artist since The Beatles in 1964! The song David sang at the finale, "The Time Of My Life," led the way, making its debut at an impressive #3 on the Hot 100. That same week, David broke the record for the most debuts on Billboard's Hot Digital Songs chart, with 14 entries. The previous record had been set by Bon Jovi, with six in 2007.

The best part is David has been able to do this while working with his musical legends, and putting his own spin on everything he's done. As he also stated on his web site, "This is my first major-label release and that gave me some room to be a bit of a chameleon and try different things." Legendary producer Rob Cavallo helped David hone his skills, and he allowed the songs to fit David as opposed to the other way around. Some of the musical greats he was able to collaborate with on songwriting were Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell, Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, Nixons singer/guitarist Zac Maloy, and one of David's personal idols, Our Lady Peace singer Raine Maida.

Having a hand in the songwriting, David was able to tell stories that have personal meaning in his life. David wrote the song "Permanent" for his brother, Adam, who is battling brain cancer. According to David's web site, it took them two takes to record this song, and there wasn't a dry eye in the house when it was finished. As David put it, "As a musician, any time you can create something where the end result is exactly what’s in your head, well there’s a heaviness to that moment and it overwhelmed me."

Paula Abdul Criticizes American Idol

Paula Abdul told Barbara Walters on her Sirius satellite radio show n Monday that American Idol producers knew Paula Goodspeed has stalked the idol judge, and allowed her to audition anyway.

Goodspeed was found dead of an apparent suicide near Abdul’s home last months. Abdul said Goodspeed had written her "disturbing letters" for nearly 18 years and that at times she maintained a restraining order against the woman.

Abdul also accused Fox of making her home address public, although she added that Goodspeed found the place on her own after an audition.

When Walters asked Abdul why she remains on a show that put her in peril, Abdul replied" I’m under contract."

American Idol Winner David Cook Debuts at Number Three

David Cook may have won "American Idol," but he couldn't top Beyonce on the Billboard charts.

Cook's self-titled debut sold 279,578 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

A swiftly tossed together press release boasts that Cook's album was the bestselling debut from an "Idol" winner since 2006. Yes, savvy readers, that mostly means Cook outsold 2007 "Idol" winner Jordin Sparks, whose self-titled debut moved only 119,000 units in its first week.

At least Cook can celebrate topping the digital album chart, with 58,713 sold, the most ever for a debut artist.

Meanwhile, the Beyonce double-disc "I Am... Sasha Fierce" sold 482,000 copies in its first week in release, better than the first frame for her 2003 debut "Dangerously in Love," but short of the figures for 2006's "B-Day."

Second place for the weekend went to Nickelback, which sold 326,000 copies of "Dark Horse."

American Idol has a new goodbye song

Last season’s contestants took their final bow on the American Idol stage as Chris Daughtry’s Home played in the background. The year before it was Daniel Powter’s Bad Day. This year, at least for the Feb. 12 and 13 episodes, singers will be leaving the stage to up-and-coming Ferras and his song Hollywood’s Not America.

Ferras’ Hollywood’s Not America will be the “goodbye” song for contestants next week on American Idol.

The song is from Ferras’ upcoming CD, Aliens and Rainbows, scheduled for release April 1 — digital release of the album is scheduled for March 11. Already, Hollywood’s Not America is available for download as a single on iTunes.

“Because this was my first record, I decided to draw on the artists who’ve inspired me — Elton John, Bowie, Queen, the Beatles — because of the huge impact they’ve had on my own music,” Ferras says on his MySpace page. “But I also wanted to make a record that’s personal and tells a story, and every song is either something I’ve experienced, something I hope to experience or something I can really connect with. These aren’t just random pop songs — they come from a real place; they explore feelings.”

American Idol returns on January 13, 2009

American Idol will return on Fox for two-hours of auditions on Tuesday, January 13th and Wednesday, January 14th 2009 before getting back to its regular one-hour slots of Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8/7c the following week.

This will be the eighth season of the hit reality series with at least one known change being the addition of Kara DioGuardi to the judging panel.

The 2009 series and season 8 auditions took place in San Francisco, CA, Louisville, KY, Phoenix, AZ, Salt Lake City, UT, San Juan, PR, Kansas City, MO Jacksonville, FL and East Rutherford, NJ from July 17 through August 19.

American Idol' Hasn't Been Kind To Male Winners

Be careful what you wish for. While "American Idol" fans (and certainly producers) have been itching for what they hope will be the epic showdown between the Davids for months, now that the last woman standing, Syesha Mercado, has been tossed from the locker room, it's worth asking: Do we really want a male "Idol"? Or, better yet, is there a jinx on male "Idol" winners?

Since season-one winner Kelly Clarkson took the mantle, two-thirds of "Idol" winners have been female and, to date, they have all managed to have very respectable (Fantasia Barrino, Jordin Sparks) if not superstar (Carrie Underwood, Clarkson) careers. The men, on the other hand, have had a less-stellar path. In fact, so far, the two male winners, season two's Ruben Studdard and season five's Taylor Hicks, are the only top vote-getters to be dropped from their major-label deals.

The tale of the tape tells it all: Underwood and Clarkson are the undisputed "Idol" champs, with debuts that sold 6.4 million and 5.9 million copies, respectively, according to SoundScan. Studdard nudges Fantasia by just more than 20,000 copies with his 1.78 million-selling debut, but he was dropped from J Records last year after his third album, The Return, sold just over 230,000 copies.

Fantasia, on the other hand, received three Grammy nominations for her second album and is working on her third while prepping to play Celie in the upcoming film adaptation of "The Color Purple" musical. Hicks, who was dropped from J Records in January after just one album, brings up the rear with just more than 700,000 copies of his debut sold, which made him the first "Idol" winner not to go platinum. In fact, his debut sold 40,000 copies less than Sparks' first effort, which was released in November and is currently getting a second wind thanks to the top-five single "No Air," which will likely further boost her album sales.

While it might be too early to say that there's some sort of bad mojo for the top "Idol" men, Michael Slezak, senior writer for EW.com, said it is becoming clear that America is more willing to embrace a female winner singing the traditionally gooey career-launching ballad. "Somehow, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson singing the cheesy 'Idol' anthem as their first single didn't seem to harm their credibility quite as much," he said. "America has a history of embracing their divas singing cheesy ballads, but it's a bit harder for male artists to get radio play with that schlock."

Slezak said he didn't think the career arcs of the two men who've won "Idol" to date are indicative of what might happen to Cook or Archuleta, but he did wonder if the latter's preference for squishy, adult-contemporary ballads might make him a square peg with radio. "[Archuleta] falls into that Clay Aiken sort of square, which is a tough sell at radio," he said. "And when he was doing the Chris Brown song ... he clearly doesn't have it when it comes to contemporary music."

Cook, on the other hand, has proven he can handle rock songs by acts like Switchfoot and Our Lady Peace and even put his own unique spin on tunes by Dolly Parton and Mariah Carey that are out of his comfort zone. "I think it's better for 'Idol' if David Cook wins," Slezak said. "They do need a male artist to win who can sell records."

Geoff Mayfield, Billboard magazine's director of charts/ senior analyst, said he's not willing to go so far as to call male "Idol" winners cursed but rather sees their struggles as part of the traditional hit-or-miss nature of the music business. "I think it might be a coincidence, but it's always down to how much talent does this person have once they've won," he said. "And that's true for any of [the winners]. I believe Jordin Sparks has the wherewithal to hang in there longer than Taylor Hicks because there's more to work with than what Taylor had."

But still, he said, it's a case-by-case call, whether the winner is male or female. For Studdard, who came out of the gate strong, the rapidly declining returns on his second and third albums would likely have gotten him booted from any label, "Idol" crown or not, and the call on Hicks was much easier given the difficulty he had in connecting with a mainstream audience.

"Idol" hasn't been particularly kind to male runner-ups, either, from season-one also-ran Justin Guarini and season two's once-shining star Clay Aiken to season-four former major-label rocker Bo Bice and last season's beatboxing flame-out, Blake Lewis. Though Aiken is back with his fourth studio album and just finished a well-received run on Broadway in "Spamalot," it does seem as if "Idol" fans love voting for the boys but aren't nearly as hyped on buying their records.

And perhaps it's also a coincidence, and likely a function of "Idol" being seven seasons in and ratings being down across the board due to the strike-impacted season, but the numbers for the show this year have consistently been down from previous highs. Though it is still the #1 show on TV, during last week's Tuesday night episode, 21.8 million people tuned in, which was the lowest audience total for the show since season two, the Studdard/Aiken year.

"Winning 'Idol' has never been a [guarantee of future success]," Mayfield said. "It gives any artist who comes from there a familiarity with their fanbase in the comfort of their living rooms, but whether they can parlay that into something bigger depends on how much talent they have at the right time, right place."

The most popular American Idol winner

Right now, I would say it's currently a toss up between Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood as to who is the most popular American Idol winner. Over time, though, I believe that it will more than likely end up that Carrie Underwood becomes the most popular American Idol winner.

While Carrie may have only recently released her second album (Carnival Ride), her debut album (Some Hearts) has sold at a faster rate than Kelly Clarkson's first album did. Also, I think Carrie is more likely to have crossover appeal (not only can Carrie appeal to the country audience, she can also appeal to pop and adult contemporary audiences as well). Kelly, while she may have the pop and adult contemporary appeal, is much less likely to find any real success on the country charts. And it also doesn't help that Kelly's third album, My December, didn't sell as well as her previous efforts.

So far, it looks like Jordin Sparks won't be much of a contender for the title of the "most popular American Idol winner." Her self-titled debut album recently debuted at number ten on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. This debut position was not only the lowest debut for an American Idol winner's album, it also sold the least amount of copies its opening week compared to other albums released by American Idol winners. Taylor Hicks, the American Idol winner in 2006, is now without a record label, after only selling 690,000 copies of his debut album. And second season winner Ruben Studdard is now also without a label, after J Records reportedly dropped him near the end of 2007.

The seventh season of American Idol has just started, so its way too early to tell how successful the winner of this season will be. However, from what information we have at the time of this writing, it appears that Carrie Underwood will have the greater potential to maintain her popularity and be the most popular American Idol winner.

"American Idol" Winner: David Cook

Watch David Cook being named the winner of American Idol 2008 Season 7 with David Archuleta coming in runner up. David Cook then goes on to sing the winning song from the songwriting competition, Time of My Life. Right at the start of the video, Simon Cowell also uncharacteristically apologized to David Cook for all but handing over the Season to Archuleta the previous night. If Idol results are really not available to anyone including the judges until that final moment, this move by Simon to apologize turned out to be a smart move and avoided an embarrassing moment when the results went in favour of the other David.

Also, with David Cook getting 56 % of the 97 odd million votes it was quite a comprehensive victory and kind of brushes away the stories circulating that voters were put off by the judges’ bias towards Archuleta the previous night.

David Archuleta is consistently good each week (in my opinion). I found his performance of "Sweet Caroline" to be refreshing. I would still like to see David sing something a bit edgier, but he may be smart sticking with what he does best.

Is American Idol Wildcard Show In The Works?

There has been some buzz on various American Idol message boards and blogs about the possibility of an American Idol 7 wildcard show. However, that same buzz has surfaced every year since American Idol eliminated the wildcard show. This year the buzz might be a little stronger, because the official American Idol website recently had a poll question asking visitors to vote on who should be brought back as a wildcard.

Also, in a recent press call, David Hernandez, who was the first of the American Idol 7 top twelve finalists eliminated, made an interesting comment. Hernandez said, “I’m off the show, and I’m not going back on obviously, unless they were to pull me as a wildcard, which would be amazing.” So was David Hernandez’s comment a subtle hint that a wildcard show is in the works or just wishful thinking?

Given that the American Idol 7 finale has been announced for Tuesday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 21, then it would seem like there wouldn’t be time to do a wildcard show if one finalist is going to be eliminated every week. However, American Idol could always do a surprise double elimination week, which would allow them to throw in a wildcard to really shake things up.

However, another more likely possibility is a special wildcard competition for a spot on the American Idol tour. There has been some Internet speculation about this possibility. Given the poll on the American Idol website and David Hernandez’s comment, it does seem like American Idol producers might have something up their sleeves in regards to a wildcard competition.

Normally, the top ten finalists on American Idol go on tour, but a wildcard show could be used to allow previously eliminated contestants to compete for an additional spot on the tour. Some speculation centers around this wildcard show occurring as part of the Idol Gives Back special. This rumor would make sense considering that FOX has announced a special 7:30 PM start time for Idol Gives Back. The extra thirty minutes could be to hold some type of American Idol wildcard tour competition.

Who would take part in an American Idol wildcard tour competition? Since David Hernandez and Amanda Overmyer were the only two finalists who did not quality for the tour, it would probably be a given that they would be given a chance. However, a competition between two people wouldn’t require an extra thirty minutes on Idol Gives Back. It would not be surprising if three judges’ choices from either the semifinalists or Hollywood rounds of the competition were also brought back for the wildcard.
