Will and Jada Pinkett Smith On Trey Smith

One thing I’ve learned is that every family has its own reason d’etre, so to speak. And if you are one of Hollywood’s A-List power couples, it must be hard not to blur the line between child rearing and passing down your own career goals and aspirations.
Just ask Will and Jada Pinkett Smith.

“Once we started to see how the children were growing… we decided that we wanted to make a family business, [asking], how do we incorporate all the talent we have in this family,” Pinkett Smith told Oprah Winfrey, where she and husband Will Smith stopped by to talk family and promote sonJaden Smith’s upcoming role in The Karate Kid. Smith and Pinkeet Smith not only serve as stage parents to Jaden in what is his biggest role to date—they also signed on as producers.

They’re not kidding about the family business part. Of late, Smith and Pinkett Smith have dedicated themselves to their children’s careers. A few years back, Jaden had his first major role, as Will Smith’s son in the tearjerker The Pursuit of Happiness. And Willow Smith had a small part in I Am legend, also alongside her dad.

Up next, Jaden and Willow Smith are set to star together in Amulet, a live action adaptation of an animated comic book series from Japan, which is likewise being produced by the Smith family production company.
Well, such is the way of the world. Some kids are famous because they are You Tube sensations. Others are unlikely stars of reality TV. And for a select few, it was in their stars, once their parents became, well, Stars.
